“Michael, Row the Boat Ashore” (or “Michael, Row Your Boat Ashore” or “Michael Row That Gospel Boat”) is an African-American spiritual. It was first noted during the American Civil War at St. Helena Island, one of the Sea Islands of South Carolina.
