“Sunny” is written by Bobby Hebb. It is one of the most covered popular songs, with hundreds of versions released. BMI rates “Sunny” number 25 in its “Top 100 songs of the century.” Hebb’s parents were both blind musicians. Hebb and his older brother Harold performed as a song-and-dance duo in Nashville, beginning when Bobby was three and Harold was nine. Hebb performed on a TV show hosted by country music record producer Owen Bradley. Hebb wrote the song after November 22, 1963, the day U.S. President John F. Kennedy was assassinated and Hebb’s older brother Harold was murdered after a stabbing outside a Nashville nightclub. Continue reading

“Sugar Town” is a song written by songwriter-producer Lee Hazlewood and first recorded by American singer Nancy Sinatra in 1966. As a single released under the Reprise label, it peaked at number five on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in December 1966, while reaching number one on the Easy Listening chart in January 1967. The song was included on Nancy Sinatra’s LP, Sugar, also released in 1966, and was featured in her 1967 TV special Movin’ with Nancy, released on home video in 2000. Continue reading

“Summer Wine” is a song written by Lee Hazlewood. It was originally sung by Suzi Jane Hokom and Lee Hazlewood in 1966, but it was made famous by Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood in 1967. This version was originally released as the B-side of “Sugar Town” the previous year, before featuring on the Nancy & Lee LP in 1968. “Summer Holiday” is a song recorded by Cliff Richard and The Shadows, written by rhythm guitarist Bruce Welch and drummer Brian Bennett. It went to number one in the UK. It is taken from the film of the same name and is one of Richard’s best known titles.
