“Save The Best For Last” is a 1992 single written by Phil Galdston, Wendy Waldman and Jon Lind in March 1989. It is considered Vanessa Williams’ signature song. The lyrics’ redemptive themes resonated with Williams’ story, as she had put together a successful recording career following her earlier Miss America resignation scandal. The song is a ballad about a young female admirer of a single man who stands by and watches as the object of her desires goes through years of dating, before he finally unexpectedly decides to consummate a relationship with the singer. 這是日本電影”新里見八犬傳”的主題曲,主要演員都是當時日本的最紅的明星,包括玉女偶像藥師丸,性格小生真田廣之(最近演過”七夜怪談”電影版)以及千葉真一等。電影本身是一部改編自日本民間傳說的神怪片,卻請來外國人寫作及演唱英文的主題曲,在當時可謂一大創舉,以至於90年代的日本偶像劇經常選用西洋藝人的作品作為主題曲,也就稀鬆平常、見怪不怪。然經過時間的淬煉,人們對”新里見八犬傳”這部電影已經不復記憶,這首抒情悅耳的主題曲卻流傳久遠,即使在今天,網路上仍然經常有人在詢問這首歌曲。 Continue reading

Same Old Lang Syne

“Same Old Lang Syne” is a song sung by Dan Fogelberg released as a single in 1980. It was also included on his 1981 album The Innocent Age. The song is a narrative ballad told in the first person and tells the story of two long-ago lovers meeting by chance in a supermarket on Christmas Eve. The melody phrase at the beginning of each verse is taken by Fogelberg from Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture. During its debut, the song peaked at #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart and is now frequently played during the holiday season and is integrated with traditional Christmas songs. Continue reading
