“Just Walkin’ in the Rain” is a popular song. It was written in 1952 by Johnny Bragg and Robert Riley, two prisoners at Tennessee State Prison in Nashville, after a comment made by Bragg as the pair crossed the courtyard while it was raining. Bragg allegedly said, “Here we are just walking in the rain, and wondering what the girls are doing.” Riley suggested that this would make a good basis for a song, and within a few minutes, Bragg had composed two verses. However, because Bragg was unable to read and write, he asked Riley to write the lyrics down in exchange for being credited as one of the song’s writers. Continue reading

Jailhouse Rock
“Jailhouse Rock” is a song written by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller that first became a hit for Elvis Presley. The song was released as a 45rpm single on September 24, 1957, to coincide with the release of Presley’s motion picture, Jailhouse Rock.
The song as sung by Elvis Presley is #67 on Rolling Stone’s list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time and was named one of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll. Continue reading
It’s Too Late
“It’s Too Late” is a #1 song from Carole King’s 1971 album Tapestry (see 1971 in music). Toni Stern wrote the lyrics and King wrote the music. The piano part is audibly similar to the opening song of Stephen Shwartz’ musical Pippin, “Magic to Do”.
King’s version of “It’s Too Late” peaked at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and Adult Contemporary charts‒on the Hot 100 as a double A-side with “I Feel the Earth Move”.
King’s version of “It’s Too Late” was certified Gold by the RIAA.
“It’s Too Late” won a Grammy Award for Record of the Year in 1972. Continue reading
