The Bridge on the River Kwai is a 1957 British World War II film by David Lean based on The Bridge over the River Kwai by French writer Pierre Boulle. The film is a work of fiction but borrows the construction of the Burma Railway in 1942–43 for its historical setting. It stars William Holden, Jack Hawkins, Alec Guinness and Sessue Hayakawa. The Magnificent Seven is a 1960 American western film directed by John Sturges. It is a western-style remake based on Akira Kurosawa’s 1954 Japanese film Seven Samurai. The film stars Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, James Coburn, Robert Vaughn, Brad Dexter, and Horst Buchholz who play a group of seven American gunmen who are hired to protect a small agricultural village in Mexico from a group of marauding native bandits. 記得小時候，在一個過年前的夜晚，家父帶我和鄰居小朋友一起去西門町看電影；就是這部約翰韋恩恩主演的『最長的一日』，講述二次世界大戰諾曼地登陸戰史。當時，物資相當貧乏，一般人也沒有太多的娛樂活動，去戲院看電影是了不得的大事。一群小男生欣喜雀躍的隨家父擠上三輪車，到了萬國戲院，卻發現售票口早已排滿人山人海的長龍。看來買不到票了，大夥垂頭喪氣…，家父叫我們站在戲院入口處等他……. Continue reading
